Sentado en el sillón de piel
Te miraba en tu obra,
Construir relojes
Tu refugio frente al tiempo.
En mis ojos de niño
Podías parar las horas
De un tiempo todavía por venir.
Pequeñas piezas sin sentido,
Eran,
entre tus manos
Objetos vivos,
Como si su secreto fuera
Girar al infinito.
Se ofrecían al tiempo

Quando si presenta l’occasione di un viaggio in Scozia per festeggiare il capodanno, il protagonista decide di non lasciarsela sfuggire. Inizia così un vagare fra colline innevate, castelli, strade ferrate, vie buie colorate da incontri e storie vissute. Ben presto però il viaggio diventa un percorso della mente, capace di dissolvere le iniziali tensioni nella magica irrealtà dei sogni. Racconto autobiografico di viaggio alla scoperta di se stessi fra sogni, visioni e laceranti intrecci con la realtà. Con illustrazioni in BIANCO E NERO ed a COLORI.

RECENSIONE:
Due ragazzi poco più che adolescenti; un sogno in comune (andare ad Edimburgo per Capodanno) la voglia di vivere e di conoscere; un’esperienza che cambierà la loro vita, che permetterà loro di crescere di vivere in "un mondo nuovo...ad occhi aperti". Il protagonista é un ragazzo chiuso, sensibile, sognatore. Uscito da una storia d’amore che l’ha ferito,vuole evadere dalla quotidianità e lanciarsi in un mondo nuovo, forse irreale sicuramente pieno di aspettative. Il suo amico è un ventenne socievole, ma lunatico, sognatore anch’egli, probabilmente spinto da quella sete di conoscenza ed avventura, tipica della loro età. Il viaggio ad Edimburgo deluderà le loro aspettative, ma, tra incontri e scontri, li aiuterà a crescere, a riconoscere la loro identità. "La città dei cristalli infranti", da cui il titolo del romanzo, è una raccolta di racconti che il giovane protagonista scopre in libreria: un insieme di storie comuni, come comune potrebbe sembrare la trama di questo romanzo, mentre in realtà è la storia della vita. Anzi sembra quasi diventare la storia nella storia ed avere un ruolo parallelo da protagonista "in qualche luogo della mente lasciamo impresse immagini che riaffiorano..."

The Importance of Literary References for Identity Construction and The Addressee in Améry's and Levi's Texts :: http://www.lulu.com/content/977022

This study describes the complex relationships between identity, memory and language to be found in Améry’s At the Mind’s Limits and Levi’s If This is a Man, and The Drowned and the Saved. A phenomenological approach is taken to examine the existence and structure of lived experience, placing emphasis on the use of literary references and the importance of the addressee within the texts. Significant differences between both writers’ perception of ‘selfhood’ and memory, before and after internment in Auschwitz, are compared and contrasted. Of particular importance is the question of whether access to a cultural background, exemplified in the texts primarily by literary references, can serve as means of opposing the nihilistic reality of Auschwitz. Each writer’s relationship with his native language is seen as essential to this question. Finally, the sum of these experiences is reflected in an examination of the way the reader is constructed and addressed in the memoires studied
